Can I solder a female mini usb port onto a circuit board?
The female mini USB port on my Seagate external hard drive has come off (poor construction, don't ever buy products from them). I have a 25 watt soldering iron and 60/40 rosin-core solder (contains lead). Is it OK to proceed or will I being doing something wrong (such as using solder containing lead or soldering at all in the first place)?
edit: also would i need flux?
It should be fine, go ahead. The flux is in the solder. Just be careful to use only enough heat to do the job, too much and you could lift the pcb tracks if the quality of the board is as poor as you say.
